What is Planet Organics?
Planet Organics is an Organic Produce & Grocery Delivery Service. Delivery can be weekly or every other week.

Where does your produce come from?
We buy locally as much as possible. In the winter months when little is grown in Northern California, we buy from farms in the Central Valley and Southern California. Our tropical fruit, such as bananas and mangoes, comes from organic farms in Central and South America.

How do your prices compare to those of organic retailers?
Our prices are about the same or less than you would find at an organic grocery store. Plus, you save you the value of your time and gas for your car.

How fresh is your produce?
We order exactly what we require for each delivery day. Our suppliers deliver to our warehouse each morning at around 2 am and we pack and deliver your produce that day. Often, the produce you receive has been picked 24 hours or less before you get it.

How do I know what I'm getting is really organic?
We buy from the same reputable farmers as local retailers and wholesalers. These farmers are certified or registered as organic in the state of California. We know many of them personally and others are known to us by reputation through local organic wholesalers. The produce we buy from out of state comes via reputable local wholesalers and must meet the California Organic Foods Act to be sold in the state. There are several third party certifiers that do regular rigorous inspections of these farms to insure they meet California's high standards. Among those third party certifiers is Quality Assurance International (QAI).

What is your delivery area?
We deliver throughout the San Francisco Bay Area within the following boundaries: south to San Jose, North to Petaluma, and East to Livermore.

Can I pick my delivery day?
No. We route deliveries by area and day so we can create efficient routes, reducing our delivery costs and keeping our prices to our customers low. You can check what your delivery day will be at the beginning of our signup process.

What if I'm not home to receive my delivery?
Most of our customers are not home when we deliver. If you live in a quiet residential neighborhood, it is almost always safe to leave your tote on your front porch. If you live on a busy street or in a more urban neighborhood, we are bonded by an insurance company to accept keys for gates, garages, apartments, and homes. We handle hundreds of keys and will gladly put in the tote in a safe place of your choosing. To send us a key, mail it to 19449 Riverside Dr. Suite 100, Sonoma CA 95476. Make sure it is padded and, please DO NOT include your address. Just put your login, email, or account number so we can find your account.

Security issues aside, it is best to have your tote left in a place which is cool and out of the sun so delicate items like lettuce and spinach will not wilt. This is especially true if you won't be home for several hours and in areas where the temperature regularly exceeds 75 degrees. We also urge customers who live in hot-weather areas to leave us out a cooler with some ice packs so we can put the delicate items in the cooler, keeping them fresh until you get home.

Is it OK to tip my delivery driver?
Tipping is at the discretion of our customers and is a wonderful way to show your appreciation for a job well done by your delivery person.

Not to mention, some of those deliveries can get pretty heavy!

On hot days, how will you keep my produce fresh?
On hot days, we keep the delicate, heat-sensitive items packed in ice and only place them in your tote when we get to your door. Our meat and dairy products are always packed in styrofoam coolers with icepacks which are guaranteed to keep your items fresh for 24 hours. If your delivery cannot be placed inside or in the shade, we recommend that you leave out a few ice packs in a cooler and we will transfer the delicate produce items to the cooler to keep them fresh until you get home.

Do you deliver to businesses?
we now are working closely with our office delivery partner - The FruitGuys. They can deliver fresh fruit to your office every week.

Is there any minimum number of deliveries I have to commit to?
Of course not! You're welcome to try a single delivery. You can stop your service at any time. Just let us know at least 48 hours before your next scheduled delivery.

Should I get deliveries weekly or every other week?
Weekly deliveries work well for families and people who are cooking most of their meals at home. For smaller households and those who eat out a lot, a delivery every two weeks is usually sufficient. You can change the frequency of your deliveries at any time.

How do I cancel a delivery?
You can cancel a delivery at any time by either calling our office, or using our Vacation Hold feature on our website. Please note that we need 48 hours notice prior to your scheduled delivery day to cancel an order.

What is my "subscription order"?

Your subscription order is your weekly produce delivery. Your produce delivery will be filled with the seasonal produce we have that day, taking into account all your preferences (price, variety, and your No List).

What is a "custom order"?
A custom order allows you to specify exactly the items you want.

When you place a custom order, you pick and choose exactly the produce you want in the quantities you need for that particular delivery. Just remember that a custom order is a one-time-only order.

What are your order minimums?
Our new minimum order is $32 total (total includes both produce and groceries).

Which type of order is right for me? A subscription order or a custom order?
Here are some factors to consider when deciding what type of order is right for you: Receiving a subscription order works well for those who like a wide variety of fruit and vegetables, enjoy the weekly or biweekly "surprise" package of produce, and thrill to the challenge of coming up with a menu after the produce has shown up at your door. It is also great for those who are just too busy to go online (let alone go to the store) to shop. Your subscription order shows up at your door without you having to lift a finger!

For those who are more particular, have special dietary needs, or like to plan all their meals ahead of time, the custom order feature is for you. Of course, there are times when subscription order folks will want to pick and choose exactly what they want (when you really want to make a particular dish, or you're having company over, for instance). And there are situations when custom order folks just won't have the time to go online to order but will still want to get a delivery of food. Then their standing order kicks in to provide them with a great tote of seasonal produce without having to do a thing!

Finally, if you're an every other week customer and you would like to get a delivery on your off week (because you are having company, let's say), then you would place a custom order.

What size tote should I get?
The size of the tote depends on your eating habits and the size of your household. Generally, a $32 tote is enough for 2-3 non-vegetarian adults for one week. Typically, our single person households do fine with one tote $32 every two weeks, while larger households go for a larger tote. Offices with 5-10 people do well with a weekly $32 All Fruit tote. But everyone is different and whatever you decide, you can always change your decision at anytime (Just give us 48 hours notice prior to your next delivery).

Can I vary the proportions of fruit and vegetables in my "subscription order?"
Yes. You can specify an even mix, all fruit, all vegetables, or a 2/3 mix depending on your preferences.

What should I do with the empty tote?
Your produce will be delivered in a sturdy reusable plastic tote. Please be sure to leave your empty tote out on the day of your delivery. We also request that your empty tote not contain any unwanted or unused produce from your previous delivery, as our drivers are unable to place old produce in our delivery vans. In order to keep our costs down, we do charge customers for any totes not returned. The charge is $10.00 per tote. If you return a tote at a later date, we will refund the tote charge.

What methods of payment do you accept?
We accept Visa or Mastercard credit/debit cards.

Do you guarantee your service?
Yes. If you're dissatisfied with any aspect of your delivery, please call us immediately and let us know. We'll do whatever we can to make it right. We stand behind our produce and our service one hundred percent.
