In 1996, we (Larry and Lorene) were one of 100 customers of Planet Organics. We had a new baby and found that the convenience of organic home delivery had many benefits. We avoided a stressful trip to the store each week, plus we saved time and money, and still had delicious pesticide-free fruits and vegetables for our growing family.
When we heard that the owners of Planet Organics were selling the business and moving back to Canada, we decided that buying Planet Organics was the best way to ensure that the service we loved would continue. We also wanted to help promote a larger goal: growing food in a way that sustains our environment and enhances our individual health.
On February 14th, 1997, Larry and Lorene assumed ownership of Planet Organics.

We invested in a comprehensive internet-based ordering system to allow you maximum flexibility, convenience, and choice when it comes to ordering your produce. |

We increased the average employee pay rate by 40%, provided health insurance and paid vacations. |

We started a scrip program™ in which Planet Organics donates back 4% of sales to participating schools and non-profits. |

We initiated a food donation program which now donates thousands of pounds of produce each year to the San Francisco Food Bank. |

Larry Bearg
Larry has a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. He has written plays and owned another small business before coming to Planet Organics. He enjoys skiing, cooking, fine wine, and is most happy when reading a good book. But with two small children and a business, who has time to read? At Planet Organics he oversees general operations.
Lorene Reed
Lorene has worked in the field of mental health as a counselor, and before coming to Planet Organics she worked as a licensed cosmetologist. She loves dancing, cooking, going to movies and just hanging out with friends, all of which happen too infrequently. She and Larry live in Sonoma with their two children, Jordan and Dylan. At Planet Organics she does all the buying and has four years experience working with organic farmers and wholesalers. Most days you can find her either on the phone talking to suppliers, or driving around northern California, meeting farmers and evaluating produce.
