Albert Straus started the first certified organic dairy west of the Mississippi River. Born and raised on a family farm, Albert completed a Bachelor of Science degree at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California in 1977. Continuing the family tradition of environmental activism and sustainable farming practices, Albert transitioned the dairy to ?certified organic? and founded Straus Family Creamery in 1994.

At Straus Family Creamery, Albert has created an internationally recognized line of premium quality, family-farmed organic dairy products, including milk, butter, yogurts, cheeses and ice cream.

Albert is a noted authority and activist in the areas of family farming, organic farming, sustainable agriculture, waste reduction in farming and food processing, and alternative-energy production.

Albert has received the California Governor?s Environmental & Economic Leadership Award, the U.S. EPA Award for outstanding Achievement, the Sustie Award for sustainable and organic farming as well as the John M. McPhail Jr. Award for environmental sustainability.
